The Sanders Family is back! In this sequel to Barksdale’s 2007 smash hit, Smoke on the Mountain, the Sanders make their annual visit to Mount Pleasant Baptist Church on Christmas Eve, 1941. Reverend Oglethorpe, Burl, Vera, June, and of course the twins, Dennis and Denise, reunite just before Dennis heads off to fight in WWII. Featuring over two-dozen songs and a cast of seven, singing and playing all the instruments, Sanders Family Christmas is bound to prove a hit all year long! Richly entertaining, this wildly infectious musical brings cheer to audiences eager to see how their friends from Smoke on the Mountain have been getting along and to those who are meeting them for the first time.

February 27 - April 19, 2009

Book and Lyrics by Bo Wilson;
Music by Steve Liebman

This delightful new musical comedy introduces us to Mona, the spunky and vivacious owner of a successful
flower shop. Mona is devoted to what she calls“quantity dating”… until the arrival of a younger man named Artie. Lost and running late to a job interview, Artie stumbles into Mona’s shop in search of directions and finds plenty of reasons to stay. As a romance blossoms between Mona and Artie, she pushes him away, insisting that he is too young for her. In what initially seems an unlikely coupling, Artie succeeds in winning Mona’s heart…but will he be able to keep it? Mona’s Arrangements features a bright, original score by award winning composer Steve Liebman in the style of She Loves Me.

Starring Joe Inscoe and David Clark

Two actors, twenty characters and a barrel of laughs, ya'll. This hilarious comedy takes place in Tuna, Texas' third smallest town, where the Lions Club is too liberal, and Patsy Cline never dies. The show ushers us through a day in Tuna, Texas, from the morning radio broadcast, to visits through the homes and businesses of this colorful community. UFO sightings, celebrity murder and a used weapon sale all contribute to the hilarity. Join us as we open our 2008 season at Hanover Tavern with one of America’s favorite comedies!

“Absolutely smashing.” New York Post

Jill Bari Steinberg stars as Shirley, a wisecracking middle-class English housewife . As she prepares “chips ‘n’ eggs” for dinner, she ruminates on her life, talking to the wall about such subjects as her husband, her children, her past and, a rather attractive offer she has just received from a girlfriend to go on holiday to Greece. After her unappreciative husband shuns dinner, Shirley sees her opportunity to temporarily escape the drudgery of her life and leaves a note on the kitchen table that reads “Off to Greece. Back in two weeks.” While in Greece, she rediscovers her zest for life… and a Greek fisherman. This award winning one-woman play is rich with the comedy of real life.

Driving Miss Daisy
By Alfred Uhry
Directed by Joseph Pabst
Featuring Jim Bynum, Garet Chester and Joy Williams

"A Godsend!
Three FINE actors

A touching, excellent ride!"
--Susan Haubenstock, Richmond Times-Dispatch

"Derives its humor and tenderness from life.
A trio of actors that bring a special synergy to the stage
It’s charming, nostalgic and just plain fun.
"
--Joan Tupponce, Richmond.com

Driving Miss Daisy is the warm-hearted comedy that captured the Pulitzer Prize. It tells the story of the surprising friendship that grows between tiny yet tenacious Daisy Werthan, an independent Jewish widow, and Hoke, the soft-spoken yet proud African American chauffeur hired by her son after she crashes another car. At first, Daisy’s stubbornness and cultural prejudices cause much friction, but Daisy, Hoke and her son, Boolie, grow over the span of 25 years, during the tidal waves of change in the American South. We watch as these two seemingly very different people discover how much they truly have in common.

DEDICATION
With love and respect, this production of Driving Miss Daisy is dedicated to the memory of Barksdale actor and Spotsylvania native Ruan Woolfolk, who died in Chicago last May at age 36.  Ruan played Tom Robinson in our 2003 production of To Kill a Mockingbird, Jim in Theatre IV’s mainstage production of Huck and Tom and the Mighty Mississippi, and Coalhouse in Ragtime at both Dogwood Dell and the Riverside Center Dinner Theatre in Fredericksburg.  Ruan was a friend to a great many Richmond theatre artists.  With all of them, we miss him and mourn his passing.
